“Ik ben altijd een bewonderaar geweest van het minimalistische werk van Krisztina de Châtel. De helderheid in structuur, de minimale verschuivingen en de strijd met de kracht van de windmachines boeien enorm. Introdans hecht aan het koesteren en hernemen van bestaand repertoire om te voorkomen dat dans wegwerpkunst wordt en ook een nieuwe generatie publiek van deze imposante werken kennis kan nemen” aldus Roel Voorintholt, artistiek directeur Introdans.
Voor de voorstelling Typhoon werkte Krisztina de Châtel samen met beeldend kunstenaar Peter Vermeulen en componist Simeon ten Holt. Het centrale thema in het werk van Peter Vermeulen is het omzetten van energie in bewegende en geluidsproducerende beelden. Voor Typhoon werkte hij het idee uit om de dansers een regelrechte confrontatie aan te laten gaan met de onberekenbare krachten van de wind. Hij plaatste daarvoor drie windmachines die in kracht kunnen variëren van een lichte bries tot een flinke storm. De Châtel laat haar dansers vervolgens de directe confrontatie aangaan met de door Vermeulen ontworpen windmachines.
Over KRISZTINA DE CHÂTEL
Choreograaf Krisztina de Châtel weet telkens opnieuw te boeien met haar unieke, energieke dans vol minimalistische en wiskundige bewegingen. De succesvolle reprises van Thron (2017) en Pulse (2019) en het monumentale Föld (2022) laten zien hoe haar voorstellingen telkens weerklank vinden bij een nieuwe generatie kijkers. Haar voorstellingen draaien rond contrasten en confrontaties: kwetsbare menselijke lichamen staan tegenover natuurelementen als wind, aarde en water, of de imposante ruimte van een kerkgebouw of machineloods. In het lichaam zelf woedt ook een strijd: tussen passie en beheersing, tussen individuele vrijheid en de anonimiteit en geborgenheid van het collectief.
Introdans is gekend om haar inspirerende danskunstenaars uit de hele wereld waarmee zij hoogstaand repertoire op wereldberoemde podia presenteren. Waardevol danserfgoed naast vernieuwende creaties. Monumental showdown in minimalist dance
In a windless prologue accompanied by the rippling piano sounds of Simeon ten Holt's Canto Ostinato, the dancers prepare themselves for what is to come. They hang off balance as if leaning against the wind. Their arms cleave the air. They are ready for battle. Then the growing noise of wind machines drowns out the soft piano sounds. The dancers fill their lungs and proudly fight this (invisible) matter that they make tangible while dancing. The monumental dance performance Typhoon (1986) by choreographer Krisztina De Châtel will be revived in the spring of 2025 and danced by the dancers of Introdans. The choreographic urge for order of De Châtel – queen of minimalist dance – is tested in this performance, as it were, in a flying storm.

Introdans is committed to cherishing and reviving existing repertoire to prevent dance from becoming disposable art and to ensure that a new generation of audiences can become acquainted with these impressive works,” says Roel Voorintholt, artistic director of Introdans.
For the performance Typhoon, Krisztina de Châtel collaborated with visual artist Peter Vermeulen and composer Simeon ten Holt. The central theme in Peter Vermeulen's work is the conversion of energy into moving and sound-producing images. For Typhoon he developed the idea of having the dancers enter into a direct confrontation with the incalculable forces of the wind. He installed three wind machines that can vary in strength from a light breeze to a heavy storm. De Châtel then allows her dancers to directly confront the wind machines designed by Vermeulen.
